The Charm of Wild Karst Landscapes - Libo, Guizhou

The south east part of Guizhou, Qiandong-nan (黔东南) are notable for its variant landscapes and cultures. It is the dwellings of 17 ethnic minorities groups, who have been living here, sharing their habits and customs of different traditions for generations. The strong ethnic flavors nourished and enriched the region into a great attractive sight of abundant features with original antiquated modest characteristic. The scenic spots hidden in this mystical wonderland around River Zhangjiang (樟江) cover an area of about 273 sq. km. Its town Libo has been addressed as Land of Mystery and proudly commended as an attractive emerald gems embedded at the waist belt of the earth. The exquisite sight of its vast primitive woods and wild Karst Forests interwoven with crystal creeks, canyons, waterfalls and boundless mountain ranges, has gained it a place in the world natural heritage site in 2007..

The scenic spot of Xiaoqikong (小七孔) that nested in a 12km long tranquil canyon 28 km away from Libo town (荔波), is one of the finest example of Karst scenery in the world. The site unveils a wide array of waterfalls, creeks, lakes, forest and caves, appearing like a great life sized Bonsai Garden.

The Seven ancient Bridge Arches building across Hanbi Pond(涵碧潭) was constructed in year 1835 in Qing Dynasty as a trade and travel channel between Libo town and Guangxi Province.

Spread over the entire antique stone bridge today are various climbing and trailing plants, creepers, reeds and ferns but under it the water of Hanbi Pond remains as blue as in the past.

The 5.5 meters high stone bridge has a length of 40 meters with 2.2 meters in width. Stone blocks were the only material applied for the construction. The sophisticated arch structure looks rather simple and frail but it withstands the attacks of several severe floods throughout the past two hundred years and survives till today. It was a great job and high level skilled work of those ancient artisans.

It was said that originally there were two monuments in front of the bridge. One was Bridge Building Monument in memory of those who built and repaired the bridge. The other one was carved with poem verses written as 群山岩浪千千岁; 响水河桥万万年 wishing the mountains, the rocks and the water waves stay for thousand and thousand years and Bridge over River Xiangshui-he survive for many ten thousand years.

The Seven Arches Bridge is also known as Seven Maidens Bridge as according to the legend of ethnic group who believed that the bridge was built by seven pretty girls with a young guy named Ah Ji from Yao minority. Ah Ji's right hand had only one finger but it had magical power to soften all hard elements and recover its hardness over a night. In order to convenient the villagers travel from one bank to another for farming and working, Ah Ji and another seven young girls decided to make a bridge over the river. Ah Ji soften all rocks and each girl responsible to built an arch for a bridge across over the water. They worked day and night and finally completed a bridge after 49 days.

It is a beautiful place, a serene site that allow anyone to leave behind all his annoyances from the bustling world.

The dazzling bridge lies over a pond of turquoise water and surrounded by a wood of greenery.

A sight of spectacular
