A Joyful Ethnic Group - Kaili, Guizhou

Have a look at Miao's variant dances, its brilliant costumes and silver ornaments, its distinctive culture, customs and ceremonies at The thousand household Miao Village of Xijiang was a great experience. The village cluster is in fact an open air museum.

The brilliant costumes and silver ornaments are rather attractive

Reed-pipe musical show was most interesting.

Colorful costumes of young dancers.

Greeting all its guests with joys

Offering rice wine to guests in a horn of buffalo is Miao's greeting customs.

Reed-pipe Field is a place where villagers gathered for activities and entertainment. It is also a venue for Miao to offer sacrifices during new year. The museum is another place to understand the authentic and preserved cultures and customs of the tribe.

People who are interested to temporarily become a Miao woman, are encouraged to rent and put up one of these striking costumes displayed at Reed-pipe Field.

All Miao people are good dancers, including all these seniors who are also the participants of dancing competition.

The head silver ornaments are beautiful.

Instead, men are always wearing in tradition black.

The head ornaments and accessories of ethnic minorities are really very versatile.

Some of Miao mothers started to wear jeans and sport shoes but their tradition habits remain, using beautifully knitted cloth to strip babies at their back.

They may put on modern high heeled boots with bright fashioned attire, but the style of dressing their hair with a bright flower on it, is never changed.

Sharing the joys of their seniors!

Miao women on the street!

Answer all questions by its beauty is a phrase given from a Chinese famous writer, perhaps its a true reflection of this hilly site.

The restaurant and food stalls !

Wudie Mama (The butterfly mom) is quite a famous restaurant near bridge No. 5. It offers delicious Sour Fish Soup.

As one of the restaurant's guests, we were offered with a bowl of  rice wine and entertained with Miao songs, during our dinner time.

The Fujian couple who shared the taxi with us from Kaili to Xijiang, joined us for the dinner. We ordered the popular sour fish soup, salted pork and wild beans. All dishes are hot and spicy.

Salted pork and sausages with red rice or bamboo rice are local delicacies.

I finally eyewitness the highly fermented taufoo fully grown with little white hair. It is a kind of rare and special food that TV food channel used to introduce. Trying such kind of unique food, I think you need a cup of Chinese tea.

Guizhou is notable for its Chinese herbs. This is the first time we encounter some of these which we have been hearing or sometimes consuming.

Many Chinese know that Sanqi (三七) is good for blood circulation, Duzhong (杜仲) is for bone repairing, Heshouwu (何首乌) is for hair stimulation and Lingzhi (灵芝) is for anti-cancer cells. But how many of us have seen the actual wild plants of these herbs? (PS: consultation is required from Chinese medical professions before consuming any Chinese Herbs)

Seasonal fruits are fresh and tempting!

The interesting paintings and decoration in the guesthouse we stayed reflected some its culture.
