1300 Homes of Miao Minority Tribe - Kaili, guizhou

Qiandongnan of Quizhou (黔东南) is home to nearly 37 ethnic minority groups. Located about 36 km away from its capital city Kaili, lies the thousand household Miao Village of Xijiang (西江千户苗寨) which is the largest Miao dwellings in the world. It comprises of more than ten naturally formed villages which have been long inhabited by about 1300 Miao families.

Wooden houses dotted with bamboo groves built on the hillside tier over tier are the main feature of Miao's architecture.

Villages were established with terraced fields along the hill slopes and running through by a crystal clear River Baishui-he, which is the most distinguished landmark at site.

Bridges building over River Baishui-he are named as Wind and Rain Bridge (风雨桥). It acts as a landmark to each address.

Under the colorful canopies are food stalls selling local typical delicacies.

Our room balcony where we relaxed and enjoyed the tea, was also a great view point for us to admire the beautiful setting of the thousand Miao households.

The imposing sight of the entire villages are unfolded beneath our eye lids when we look out from our room balcony.

Running through the villages is a clear water flow of Baishui-he River.

It was indeed a spectacular sight when all the 1300 households lit up in the evening.

The commercial area.

The room offered from local guesthouse setting halfway on the hill was expensive but cozy. All rooms were decorated with interesting arts and paintings with beautiful lantern lighting.
