A Gorgeous Bonsai Garden - Huangguoshu, Guizhou

The lovely Miniascape Bonsai Garden (盆景园)located at the scenic site of Huangguoshu Waterfalls National Park draws the attention of people due to its vast area of potted Bonsai plants. The entire 40 acres of land are displayed with more than 3000 Bonsai of different species and various patterns of Panjiang peculiar rocks. It boasts an ideal home to bonsai for its growth and development.

Miniascape garden located in a lower area of west Guizhou, is free from frost all year round and that is the condition for the growth of sub-tropical vegetation. Throughout all seasons, the garden is covered with trees and flowers.

Plants in big range of species that are beautifully manicured and shaped, are displayed in a large lawn with walkways in between. The potted bonsai are particularly impressive. Some of the plants are quite old and rare, though there is no much indication.

I am quite often using the dried hawthorn fruits in my Chinese cooking. This is the first time I met a hawthorn tree which Chinese addressed as Shen-zha (山楂). I was also surprised to find out that a pomegranate tree can also be trimmed into a beautiful Bonsai.

The status of the Ming's great geographer and traveler Xu-xiake (徐霞客 1587-1641) was erected in the garden to commemorate his visit to Huangguoshu Waterfalls Park in year 1636, April.  Since then, many literates and geographers followed his steps and made Huangguoshu into fame.

The wooden log is the cherry tree and the potted bonsai is Yinxing (银杏), the gingko tree. As I know, Gingko tree is huge and tall with impressive golden yellow foliage in autumn, but I did not know that it could be manicured into a beautiful Bonsai.

The elegant Bonsai of Chinese Nantian bamboo (南天竹), Japanese kind of cherry tree (腊梅), and Indian Azalea flower (杜鹃).

Jasmine flowers (九里香)is among the most attractive ones.
