Ditan actually was a site constructed in 1530 during Ming Dynasty as a place where Emperors could perform scarifies to Gods for good harvests, auspicious weather and strong stable nation. The 40 acres of land covers large areas for towering pine, gingko biloba and cypress trees. Every year during the 15 days Chinese New year celebration, hundreds and hundreds visitors flock in to participate its festival featuring over thousands of red lanterns and colorful fans, hanged on the many trees in the park. Such kind of traditional temple fairs have been held regularly since 1980s.
Another season of attraction is its tree lined paths in fall especially the Gingko trees Boulevard. It was one of the places in Beijing to admire and capture the beauty of the golden yellow foliage.

The park was placed in the middle of a heavily populated area in the Capital City, easily accessible by public transports.
