Village of Laver - Beiqi, Xiapu


Beiqi Village is the main and largest laver producing region in Xiapu of Fujian Province. Almost all locals in this area are making living by farming the seaweed. The laver farm that covers more than 2000 hectares of sea surface appears like a huge life Chinese traditional ink painting spreading across the bay. It is such a harmony and magical sight.



Millions of sea laver sheets are hanging over the nets tied between thousands and thousands of bamboo sticks that are embedded into the soft mud across the sea bay.



Using Bamboo Pillaring technique in the agriculture of sea laver is indeed a wisdom of Chinese sea farmers.



A vast natural bay embraced within hills and mountains, consistent water temperature and sea tides are gifted conditions to sea products farming industries.



When morning sun pierces through the fluffy clouds, the entire site are brighened up with golden rays..



Sea laver from far are just like combination of dark squares and dots but when tinted with sky lights, it manifested into an incredibly picturesque sight.



Scene changes with every passing moment, every day and every season.



Every year early in dawn, lining up at the opposite hill, are nearly 20,000 photographers, waiting to capture its stunning sunrise that react beautifully with a sea of dark green laver sheets and thousands of nets and pillars...



It would be a colorless art piece at the time the sun is shy to show up. Spectacular sun rise and glowing sun set requires good karma as well.












The consistency of tidal washing at the shallow delta created beautiful coastal surface to appearing like stripes design of tiger skin.

Sea laver that are nutrient with high contents of dietary minerals, particularly iodine, are highly demanded in the market.



Month of November is the busy harvest period of this sea products in Xiapu.









Boats or barges are important gadget sea farmers required to cultivate and harvest the laver.



Sea creatures feed on plankton from river delta and mudflat and survive birds like storks.



Photographers with exclusive long and short lens, drone, gather here as early as 4am and occupy most of its viewing point where late comers hardly can squeeze in a step.
