The distance between Wutaishan and Datong is about 157 km but the bus needs to take about 3-4 hours to meandering through it as most of the route are tapering and winding mountainous road. It was adventurous, exciting and interesting especially those unveiled nature sights that exposed in front of you while your vehicle slowly cut through it. We were now approaching the East Terrace of Wutaishan which is approximately 10km away from Town Taihuai-Zhen and 157 km from Datong City.
Many people said that the shape of East plateau looks like a huge standing elephant.
The bus moved on along the side of East Terrace while we admired the beautiful sight of the peak.
The snow-capped mountain peak made our journey not so monotonous. All passengers were busy in trying to capture the best picture of it.
The top surface of Wutaishan East Terrace appears like the back of a large turtle from distance.
The height of East Peak is 2795 meter above sea level.
Arriving the site of East Terrace which is known as Peak Wanghai-feng (望海峰), sharing the same name as the Temple located there.
There is a road leading from Hongyan-meng (鸿岩门) direct to Temple Wanghai-si (望海寺) at the East Peak. The site was named as Wanghai which literally means looking ahead to the sea, as the cloud which appear like edgeless sea when viewing from peak top, is a fantastic sight of Wutaishan. East Terrace is also very famous for its sunrise scene. Among the five terraces of Wutaishan, it is the most convenient to ascend but commencing from October each year, the area always starts to snow, that make the journey difficult for most visitors.
A historical Stone Stele sheltered under an elegant pavilion turned into a beautiful landmark at this site.
The bus had to engage low gear after this point as the road began to go downhill.
